UC Berkeley, a beautiful superposition of a prestigious academic institution and a cesspool of moral confusion, saw an uptick in the number of students enrolling in a beginner level quantum computing class. The title “The Power of Non Binary” confused many on campus and drew a different profile of student than the College of Engineering was used to seeing. Faculty were initially pleased with the change as noted by Professor Robert Wang’s enthusiasm, “Woo ha! (not Wuhan) I’m more excited than an electron in the 18s orbital!”
However, as students started receiving exam grades, it became apparent that they had no background or ability to take the quantum mechanics based course. Failing students, emboldened by who-knows-what, ironically demanded that tests change to true/false and that the class change to pass/fail. Professor Robert Wang responded, “Alas, how to disentangle so much misunderstanding about quantum computing? Maybe I can give them grades that match their current pronouns at the end of the semester. And maybe not.”
