A TikTok trend of “day in the life” videos of college experiences has led to a slew of posts by various students.
Society Garlic does not publish content on CCP platforms, so will instead publish dairy excerpts from Brenda (Ethnic Studies) and Justin (Engineering). These students have made public their college experiences which juxtapose the these two very different majors. The college they attend doesn’t matter – the experiences are largely similar.
7:00am
Brenda: I wake up to the sound of birds chirping outside my window, and I start my 20 mins of mindfulness to think about my day. I stretch for 20 more minutes before I take a long steam shower with eucalyptus.
Justin: The blaring alarm jolts me out of bed after just 2 hours of sleep. I brush my teeth and face at the same time for efficiency. I check my computer so see that my code still works and begin testing remaining edge cases that I thought of while I was sleeping.
8:00am
Brenda: I make a matcha latte with oat milk and avocado toast with microgreens from my local farmer’s market. I put on a cute yoga outfit and fill my Stanley cup with lemon mint water.
Justin: I down a cup of black coffee and eat left over ramen from last night. I celebrate that my test cases work with a fist pump and begin micronizing my permitted cheat sheet for my first test of the day. I don’t need to change because I never got into PJs. Efficient.
9:00am
Brenda: I love yoga. It’s my religion, and I am so spiritual. Namaste, everybody!
Justin: I got my ass kicked by this electromagnetics exam. But how did I do relatively speaking is the question. If the average was a 38/100, maybe I did ok.
11:00am
Benda: My class today is Multi-Ethnic Feminist Culture of the 2020s. I love it because there is so much history to it, and the class is so diverse. It’s all girls. And we got smoothie bowls today to celebrate [people who identify with] girl power.
Justin: Every dude in this data structures class is scrambling to make sure his code is going to work in front of the TA. I’m hoping to go last so I can overhear any edge cases I might have missed. Dammit! They’re not speaking in English so I can’t eavesdrop! Double dammit! I missed two edge cases. I wonder if I’m doing worse in Electromagnetism or Data Structure Design. Ugh.
12:30pm
Brenda: I love eating a fresh salad on the lawn in front of my sorority. It’s like a picnic.
Justin: I grab a free bagel from the Eta Kappa Nu office and eat it on the way to the engineering library where I can study for my next exam in fluid dynamics. Everyone else has the same idea, so I have to box people out.
3:00pm
Brenda: I go shopping on Main St. to buy some gourmet treats for this evening’s wine and cheese class at my professor’s house.
Justin: I got my ass kicked by this fluids exam. If we don’t even know if smooth solutions always exist, how could I get through that test!?
5:00pm
Brenda: I put on a cute dress, think of some good conversation starters, and reaffirm myself in the mirror.
Justin: I go to my professor’s office hours and come out more confused. I don’t understand his accent or what he’s trying to say.
7:00pm
Brenda: I learn so much about wine and cheese and politics of course, and it was so much fun because we all agree on everything. The dinner was exquisite.
Justin: I work on my code to fix my edge cases so I can finally download it to an FPGA. I buy an XL pizza, so it can be my next three meals.
9:00pm
Brenda: I wind down with some TikTok to catch up on the news, throw a bath bomb into my tub, and light a candle before going to bed.
Justin: I continue to work on my code.
12:00am
Brenda: zzzzz
Justin: I continue to work on my code.
3:00am
Brenda: zzzzz
Justin: I continue to work on my code.
5:00am
Brenda: zzzzz
Justin: I continue to work on my code.
